NEW YEAR, NEW CHANGES

I am feeling so stiff, five hours on a Jet2 flight and still an hour to go. I don't think we should really complain when we consider the vast distances we cover. It's interesting listening to the conversations and complaints on board. Like everything these days we want immediate delivery.

So my New Year’s resolution is to try and be more patient although it’s hard to be patient when our customers demand speed of delivery and accuracy. We believe our best approach is through the use of smart technology and of course great staff.

It has been a brilliant year at thebigword, at times very challenging as expectations from our customers, which include some of the world’s largest companies, push the boundaries for speedy delivery, competitive prices and high quality. Despite the pressure their demands put on thebigword we have predominantly met them, in fact we seem to be motivated by the challenge which further goes to show the commitment of our people; this is at no small cost to our teams across the world and especially the support we receive from our teams of global linguists.

For our stakeholders this year will be a year of change. For the past few years our industry has been through a price war, a speed of delivery war, and a ‘get your quality right’ war. It has been hard for our people to deal with the increasing demands and I am both grateful and proud of how so many of our people have shown such commitment. Prices that customers have been prepared to pay for both have been substantially reduced, so how can we keep winning the business? Well I warn you all that this year thebigword is going to create a revolution! We are going to blow the minds of our customers with a host of new technologies and processes; between you and me our competitors should feel a little scared. I am not at liberty to reveal all just yet, but by spring this year we shall have some exciting announcements to make so watch this space - or indeed this blog!

This year we shall be increasing the amount of training we give our staff and this will be partly facilitated through an enlarged Learning and Development team. It will be further supported by working closely with the International School of Linguists who have already tested and trained more than 1,000 of our linguist community and we will be making more online training available to them. Our hope is to make our linguist community feel more that they are part of our company.

Our progress in technology is being aided by the investments made this year in additional developers and analysts. This year more than 10% of our people will be employed in our technology division.

We endeavour to increase our teams and improve the infrastructure in all our offices around the world, with special attention on Beijing, Tokyo and Dusseldorf.

Being patient has never been one of my strong points and I think you may agree by the tone of my first blog of the year that I am destined to fail in relation to this resolution.

Can't wait for this plane to land!!!

Have a great weekend.
Larry
