Never mind swine flu, it's all about whine flu!

This week has been extremely exciting. At the beginning of the week we won a contract in the USA for FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency). This US Government Agency is tasked with disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery planning. thebigword will be providing both telephone interpreting (OPI) and translation.

It has been a great week in the US where we won the Coalinga State Hospital contract, who work under the California Department of Mental Health, where we will be providing face to face and telephone interpreters (OPI) to support patient care.

Thebigword was nominated for a National Training Award, that was Tuesday night and I enjoyed excellent coverage in ClientSideNews. And who says investing in good dental treatment and hair replacement therapy doesn’t pay off? You just have to click on to the link and see the picture.

One of the issues that we do focus on is our belief that there are many individuals and businesses too affected by whine flu, as opposed to swine flu. It is true that I have heard some really sad stories this week of people losing businesses and jobs but I believe we have to remind ourselves that the majority of people still have great opportunities.

I would like to take the opportunity of thanking the many interpreters and translators who commented on my last week’s blog. Most of them were complimentary!

Everybody at thebigword is very excited that we are launching LanguageDirector® 2.0 in the next week. We believe that it is the most intuitive language management system ever. The reaction from our major global companies has been tremendous, and this has already helped us enjoy increased requests for translations. The best thing about LanguageDirector® is it is great for our clients. It really helps our PMs manage our clients’ projects and it is also great for the translators. This time we have introduced a number of cost-saving features, providing our customers with brilliant information, so don’t forget to look at our website next week.

I have to say that as I write this, the only bleak thing in my life is the grey skies outside my window. This week we celebrate my father’s 85th birthday. The garden is laid out with tables and umbrellas - we are certainly going to need the umbrellas.

I hope you all have a great weekend and wherever you are, may the sun shine upon you. Please let me have your thoughts and reactions on our new version of LangugageDirector®.
